My First Sock

inMa Vie

(comments are closed)

So I’m still knitting! I tried and tried and tried to be patient and force myself to change over to Continental style knitting but decided it was not for me. I tried for over a week and decided that I am quite comfortable doing it English style and I like my stitches and gauge, so I’m going to just be an English knitter :)

My next project after my last post is to learn how to knit socks. I started around 2 weeks ago, following yet another Craftsy class and as well as watching some videos by Lucy Neatby. I am now working on my first sock:

You can view my instagram for my progress from cuff to toe (hopefully soon). It has been a lot of fun learning how a sock is made and seeing how much patience I have. I haven’t given up though I have frogged more times than I can count when it came to the heel (must learn to not read ahead in a pattern!). I am currently working on some nice inexpensive Patons Kroy sock yarn but I hope to use this yarn from my LYS purchase in February in the coming month or two. And of course, after I make the above sock’s twin :)

In other non-knitting inamood news, Dad and I drove over 5 hours north to visit my brother and sister-in-law to help celebrate their daughter’s first birthday. This little one is just a cutie pie and I love watching her growing up before my eyes through the lovely photos her mother shares on Facebook and in IMs. For her first birthday, my father made her a gorgeous toybox from scratch:

That is about it here in the Moody household. We are all looking forward to the Spring, it has been a cold, harsh winter for the 2nd year in a row and I cannot wait to thaw out :)

I never knew there were different types of knitting. I had to look it up on Youtube. I am an continental knitter then. That is the way we are taught in school. I guess whatever you learn first will feel more natural and easy. :)

Knitting Up A Storm!

I have been continuing on with my Craftsy class and enjoying it immensely! I finished the second project, a chevron beanie.Screen Shot 2015-03-06 at 10.08.12 AM

Although you cannot see it, it has quite a few mistakes, but for my 3rd hat ever AND my first with cables I think it turned out great. Only thing? Too small for my head, I needed more length as it sits above my ears.

The next project in the class is fingerless gloves but they are done are DPNs in the class and when I tried to do it on magic loop the lace pattern was asking for stitches to be slipped that were on both needles etc, so I put that aside, for now. I cannot seem to get the hang of the DPNs which is why I tried magic loop. I do have some 16″ ChiaoGoo circulars coming, maybe I will try them :)

Last night I spent the evening working on Continental style knitting – it is suppose to be faster and I’m all about speed in my crochet so although I keep saying I can only knit English style…I haven’t given up yet!
