Vista Sucks

Last weekend I went to my Dad’s to reformat his pretty new computer. You see his has Vista on a Dell (that is the way it came) and in the last Vista update Microsoft had, it broke the printer spooler and his printer would no longer operate.

This frustrated my father who would threaten ever time we spoke on the phone that he was going to through it out the window. My father lives in an apartment in a house and he has no doorbell button. When you go you have to pound on the wood door and hope he isn’t in the back so you don’t have to dig through your purse to find your second set of keys (those keys that you should have on you, for those just in case you need them days) especially when you’re carrying two Tim Horton coffees.

Formatting the computer took just under 2 hours. I made sure that his computer will never update again and that my father could print to his hearts’ content.

My Dad is oftentimes…easy to please.

My Precious

BruiserWell my iPhone finally arrived today and it took two calls to get it to work, but wow, it is working now :)

I love it! I’ve downloaded 4 (free) apps so far: Facebook, Tweetdeck, TD ATM locator (my bank ) and WordPress. It is also set to run on my wi-fi when I’m home.

It has been fun to play with, but really there should be some written manual. I mean when the Rogers technical support person told me to turn off the phone (2nd call because I couldn’t access the internet) I laughed and asked how.

Next week I will have my work email app put on it by my tech dude and all will be good in the world.

This photo (click to enlarge) was taken on my iPhone tonight while walking Bruiser. I love the quality of the photos and how fast it can be uploaded…no more downloading my photos to my computer and then uploading to wherever I choose to place it.

I heart iPhone.

Monday is iphone day!

iphone 3GI am really excited. Yesterday I received an email confirmation that my iPhone was shipped via UPS and I should receive it tomorrow. I hope transfer of my phone number from Bell to Rogers goes quickly (they say 2.5 hours?)

I cannot wait to play with it! Tomorrow is going to be so hard to work once it arrives especially as it is I have it being shipped to work.

Last night I spent the better part of 2 hours going through the iTunes app section…oh my! I didn’t know there were so many apps out there (free and pay)…I’m surprised I didn’t run into any seo services apps considering there are flashlight apps, decorating, finances (woohoo!), weight management, etc.

Oh…and let us not forget the games, like Sims 3. I think I’m in trouble :)

Siren’s Song

iphone 3GYesterday in one of my 3 meetings I had, my boss received his new iphone. I’m assuming he had it earlier but had given it to one of our IT people to load our email/calendar software on it and ensure it was operating properly.

I oooh’d and awww’d over it getting more and more jealous over his new toy. I have wanted one since the 3G came out last year and also it doesn’t help that I am on the committee who is bringing the iphone to work via a corporate plan (to our Account Directs/Mgmt, etc). So yes, the iphone has been on my mind for a long, long time.

I have done my best to not buy one, afterall who needs a $75+ cell phone bill every month. Apparently I do.

Last night I ordered a refurbished 3G (3GS is on backorder and I’m not impressed with the few new features it has for the extra cost) 16GB for $111.87. A new one would have cost $168.37 so I saved $56.50 there.

I was feeling kind of guilty this morning but when I logged into my Pay U2 Blog account, if I complete all assignments by Sunday, I will have $60US I can use against this unplanned toy and more than likely make up the difference in the following Pay U2Blog assignments I will get and be paid for on the 28th.

So guilt begone! I cannot wait to play with my new phone :)

Small PCs

There has been a lot of discussions on many of the blogs I read about netbooks and comparing this one to that one, etc. As you may be aware in February I got myself a Mac Air and although bigger than a netbook, I love it. I weighs very little especially considered to a Dell Inspiron I owned and my Macbook Pro I use at work.

It is easily carried about with ease and super fast. I know that as we go on smaller is better but in this case for me…this medium sized, super light weight Mac Air is for me.
