Portable Flash Drives

I’m looking for a new flash drive for work. There are so many out there these days which is great to see but doesn’t make it easy on me!

I don’t need a large one, a small capacity one would do since I really only need to do it when I need to update a user’s library file for our accounting/costing software.

I’d love to find one that can be attached to my key chain so I don’t have to go digging for it in my desk drawer. My keys are always on my desk at work because of the two RSA fobs I require for Citrix and company banking. Might as well add to the girth of my key chain.

Buh-bye Money!

I’m a bean (aka accountant). I have been a bean for 17 years, the majority of it being in public accounting (CA firms) and I have seen some wild things. I now am in industry and because of my work in the private sector I am all for business credit reports. It is hard these days to determine who exactly to do business with especially in this soft economy (I don’t like to use the R word). They may look great on the customer information form you had them fill out. Even their business references checked out (of course they did, they were the ones who gave you those particular references silly!).

I hate writing off bad debts…yes – year end is here.

Hallowe’en…just around the corner!

I know it is only August but I’m on the hunt for a Hallowe’en costume as my work dresses up for it. The first year I was nothing (not knowing that it was a big thing for my coworkers), second I was a lady bug and last year I was a baby.

I do buy online as you get a lot more selection than Walmart or Zellers but I do get tired of the gazillion sexy costumes there are compared to clowns, babies, cartoon characters etc. Ah well, I am sure they sell well, everyone wants to be sexy and Hallowe’en does allow people to step out from their comfort zone and go crazy.

‘Cept me that is, lol.

Medical Benefits

At work we have a great health care plan and also an employee assistance plan that includes financial and mental counselling. I pay $5 per prescription no matter the cost and have $1,000 a year to spend on massage, chiro, accupuncture, etc, etc. Oh and um…I’ve never used any of it except my prescriptions. I pay $0 for this.

At my old job we had a health savings account which was a measly $250 a year to go against medical benefits that they didn’t cover which was quite a bit.

I have it pretty good. What are your benefits like?

You Want What Where?

Since I work for a design and branding firm, I see a lot of UPC barcodes. You know, the codes that are on all items purchased that are scanned by either the cash register if you are checking out or by a hand held UPC reader, like a Symbol LS2208 if you are doing purchasing/inventory at a store.

I was having a meeting with one of my account directors and he came in with a itty bitty tube that one of his client’s was using and I was amazed at a) how small it was and b) how much copy (legal, ingredients, etc) needed to go on this small tube as well as some sort of graphic to keep in line with the design of the box which would hold it on the shelves.

I guess that is why I’m into numbers and not design. I’d end up giving the tube back to the client and saying “sorry can’t do it!”, lol.
