House Update

inMa Vie

(comments are closed)

So what has been going on in my world since my last post? Hmmm…broken foot healed as best as it could. It aches every once in a while but from my understanding it always will. There has also been tons of home renovations in the last year and a half. We have (and not in particular order):

  1. replaced all windows (pics)
  2. replaced the roof
  3. updated the basement bathroom (pics)
  4. built a pentagon shaped shed in the backyard (pics)
  5. made the foyer closet twice it’s size
  6. painted the interior (except kitchen)
  7. renovated the 2nd floor bathroom (pics)
  8. replaced all the doors (not yet painted)
  9. redrywalled the basement (pics)

I think that is it – there is still quite a bit to do:

  1. renovate kitchen
  2. replace attic insulation
  3. replace the front door
  4. re-side the house
  5. replace stair carpet
  6. add carpet to 2nd floor hallway
  7. paint all interior doors
  8. replace fencing in back yard
  9. parking pad for Buttercup*
  10. doggy door

And when I say we, I mean Dad. I would never have been able to do any of this without him. I cannot wait to see what 2015 will bring!

* Right now I have to move the cars around M-F as my father leaves first in the morning. We have spoken of taking a bit of the front yard and widening a part of the driveway.

The Never Ending To Do List

inMa Vie

(comments are closed)

27Tomorrow the buyer of my condo is coming to view it at noon. Dad and I will be doing the same for our new home and I cannot wait. The viewing is mainly for Dad so he can measure his room and plan his furniture. But I cannot wait to be able to look around and not have anyone home while doing so (when viewing the home before purchase the owners were in).

I plan on taking my own non-wide angle camera lens photos to use to figure out layouts of my current furniture and future furniture purchases (TV stand, coffee and end tables).

Tonight I found out that garbage/recycling pick up for my new home is Monday. I also found out they have a 2 bag limit per week unless you ‘buy’ more bags which I think will be necessary for the first week or two of the move. I also found out if I bring in my purchasing documents, I can get 2 new blue bins, 1 green bin and 1 kitchen bin :) I plan to buy the tags and pick up the bins sometime this week or next.

Time is moving fast! Only 27 days until move day! I’ve been still working on items for the new home and the selling of my current and as the move date gets closer I think of more and more stuff.

Current to do list:

  1. Take photo of house locks so we can change them out move in day
  2. Pick up bins and tags from Region of Peel
  3. Buy two toilet seats for move in day
  4. Dog tags for the boys

One Month To Go!

inMa Vie

(comments are closed)

My New HammockThe countdown is officially on. One month left until I sign away my life (yet again, though for less than the condo, lol) on the dotted line for my house. And one month, one day until I move into it :)

I’ve been busy getting ready for the move, amazed at the little things that need to be done for the move to be smooth. Such as:

  1. Set up mail forwarding with Canada Post
  2. Get house insurance and remove condo insurance
  3. Update auto policy for address change (going up $20/month for Brampton)
  4. Advise hydro company of sale and move date
  5. Set up move appointment with Bell Fibe for the new home
  6. Also took this time with Fibe to update tv/internet programming/plans
  7. Packing (of course)

As well there have been conversations back and forth with the mortgage broker (rate of 5 year variable closed at P-.4) and lawyers getting everything everybody needs.

On Saturday I set up an appointment to go visit my future home to get some measurements, especially of Dad’s bedroom and to really look at the home. The evening prior, my buyer is coming at 7pm to do the same.

Oh and the photo above? My new hammock for the new home. My first purchase :) Second purchase will be a doggy door for the boys so that we can get it installed asap upon move in.

SinkPositive – I Want It!

inMa Vie

(comments are closed)

My new home has 1.5 baths which both need renovating. The .5 needs big time renovating, I want to make it slightly bigger to accommodate a shower, plus sink & toilet as it currently only has the latter two. I’ve always been intrigued by the sink/toilet combinations which appear to be quite popular in Europe. Here in Canada, I think I found a reseller of the Caroma brand but I’m sure it will cost just shy of $1K.

Then I found the SinkPositive addon which will do the same thing but for a pittance. It works by replacing the top of the toilet tank with a lid/sink combo and reroutes the water that would normally fill the tank (then go to the bowl) to go through the faucet, then down the sink drain to fill the bowl. It uses the ‘grey’ water to fill the tank which I think is ingenious. As well as being earth friendly (can save a gallon of potable water a day), it is also a space saver which is what I’m looking for as well.

Cannot wait to move in and start making it mine.
